Brittany’s Health Journey (Busy mom of 3)
As I was approaching 40, I was gaining weight without doing anything different. Nothing seemed to stop the pounds from piling on. I have hypothyroidism, tendinitis and arthritis in both my knees, and found out I am glucose intolerant, making it nearly impossible to lose weight. My PCP would tell me I needed to exercise to lose weight, but I couldn’t exercise because of my debilitating knee pain. She told me time and time again I just needed to get used to being overweight. As much as I appreciated not being shamed by a doctor for my weight, that wasn’t the guidance I was looking for.
I spent years trying to figure out the root cause of my weight gain. I went to a hormone specialist where they used trial and error to try to balance my hormones. They never really got a grasp on anything being off and no hormone adjustment seemed to work. I spent a year going to a nutritionist where they eliminated things from my diet and then I would go back 2 months later only to feel the same and we’d move onto something else to eliminate only to find no improvement. I spent a year in PT trying to jog without pain in my knees, but could never get past jumping before I had to start over. I was so frustrated that nothing was working and all the doctors I was going to weren’t helping.
I switched to a naturopathic practitioner, assuming they would help me find the root cause for the weight gain, but their only suggestion was to take Ozempic. I was equally disappointed in that approach and wanted to avoid that at all costs. I continued researching and trying weight loss supplements and fad diets and each time they were ineffective.
After much research and internal debate, I shamefully started taking Ozempic in April of last year. I was barely hungry ever, eating maybe 500 calories a day, and barely losing weight, sometimes even gaining. My stomach felt terrible and to say I was depressed that this miracle drug was barely working was an understatement. Over the next 5 months I ended up losing 18 lbs on Ozempic but my clothes fit the same and I still felt terrible.
In October 2025, I stumbled upon an ad for a seminar at Bend Aesthetics & Wellness. I took a chance and found out that Dr Carey gets to the root of the problem and doesn’t just treat the symptoms. Dr Carey builds you a nutrition program with supplements specific to your needs and has a coaching program where you check in virtually every 2 weeks and can ask questions at any time. In past weight loss attempts, I was missing the follow-up and accountability aspect to help me be successful. This program provided education on all the misinformation in the health and food industries. I started eating all organic, cut out chemicals in food, skincare and household products, and completed an elimination diet and detox to recognize how my body reacts to certain foods. I cut out sugar (which was not easy for my sweet tooth), I eat extremely limited dairy, and eliminated nearly all grains. I now have organic fruits and vegetables on hand to satisfy my appetite and provide me with the nutrients my body needs.
This health program has not been easy but I’ve remained disciplined and with consistency the pounds started melting away. It took me 361 days to lose 50 lbs, but man, hitting that milestone sure felt good! My inflammation markers were cut in half and my cholesterol is within normal range for the first time in over 20 years. I can now run and play with my kids without pain!
I so appreciate Dr. Carey and the support and guidance she provided during this program. She gave me my life back. My only regret is that I didn’t find out about this program sooner!
